When it finally finished, a single folder appeared on his desktop. Inside were three files: view_from_above.jpg READ_ME_IMMEDIATELY.txt

His heart thudded against his ribs as he opened the image. It was a high-resolution drone shot of a house in the suburbs. The roof was missing a few shingles near the chimney. A blue sedan was parked in the driveway with a cracked taillight. It was his house. But in the driveway, there was something that wasn't there when he got home: a tall, thin figure draped in a yellow raincoat, standing perfectly still, looking directly up at the camera.

The extraction bar was already at 98%. As the clock struck 11:42 PM, Elias didn't hear a knock at the door. He didn't hear the window break. He only heard the sound of his own breath turning into static as his vision began to pixelate, his body deconstructing into rows of binary code, being pulled, bit by bit, into the hard drive.

He scrambled to the window and threw back the curtains. The street was empty. No yellow raincoat. No figure. He felt a brief surge of relief until he looked back at his laptop. 57423.rar

Elias clicked the text file first. It was empty, save for a single timestamp: Today, 11:42 PM. He glanced at the corner of his screen. It was 11:38 PM.

Elias lunged for the audio file. At first, there was only static—the wet, rhythmic sound of heavy breathing. Then, a voice whispered, sounding less like a person and more like a collection of clicking insects.

When he tried to open it, the extraction bar didn't move from left to right. Instead, it flickered in bursts, the percentages jumping erratically: 4%, 82%, 11%, 99%.
