Flibusta was born on October 8, 2009, as a "fork" of another famous library, Librusec. The split occurred when Librusec began commercializing its services by charging for downloads and collaborating with major publishers like LitRes.
Since its inception, Flibusta has been a primary target for copyright holders.
: In 2015, the library was blocked in Russia following a lawsuit by the "Eksmo" publishing house regarding the works of Ray Bradbury.
