The story begins in 2022 when Dr. Ben Song makes an unauthorized leap into the past using a rebuilt Quantum Leap accelerator, leaving his team in the present to solve the mystery of why he did it. Like his predecessor, Ben suffers from "Swiss cheese" memory loss and must "leap" into different people's bodies to "put right what once went wrong" before he can move on to the next jump.
